(Washington, DC) Today, the District of Columbia Council voted unanimously to confirm Vivek Kundra as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the District with oversight of an agency of over 600 staff charged with managing information technology and telecommunications for the entire DC government. CTO Kundra issued the following statement in appreciation of the DC Council’s decision:
“I am truly honored by the Council’s unanimous vote for my confirmation to this important post. I want to thank Mayor Fenty for my appointment to his cabinet and for his deep commitment to utilizing innovative solutions to respond to the District’s most complex issues.
“I will use this opportunity to support DC government in its implementation of technology to increase access to services for the residents, businesses and visitors of this great city, particularly by supporting the District’s efforts to improve the quality of education for our children.
“I want to thank Chairman Gray, Councilmember Schwartz and all of the members of the Council for expressing their confidence in me with this vote. I look forward to working with them in our efforts to enhance government services in meeting the needs of the public.
“As CTO, I am pleased to extend congratulations to the other District agency directors who were confirmed today.
